Linea is a ZK-Rollup scaling solution developed by ConsenSys, a leading blockchain software company. It aims to address the scalability and security challenges of the Ethereum mainnet by providing a more efficient and secure way to process transactions.
Situation
Linea in collaboration with key partners including Clique, Consensys, Gitcoin, and others, embarked on the development of Verax, an innovative on-chain attestation registry. Verax was designed to transform dApps by providing a shared "data lake" for storing and retrieving attestations—verified public interest data—across EVM chains. The goal was to create a scalable, interoperable solution that could be easily adopted by dApps, enabling more sophisticated reputation protocols and decentralized identity systems.
Challenge
As the inaugural issuer on Verax, Clique needed to implement Proof of Humanity to accurately distinguish genuine users from bots while safeguarding user privacy and data integrity, thereby establishing a powerful form of Sybil resistance within the blockchain ecosystem.
Solution
Clique integrated its trusted social attestations into Verax, serving as the first light proof-of-humanity layer. Instead of relying on intricate and often intrusive traditional methods, Clique focused on social attestations. Metrics such as influence, average generated impressions, account lifespan, and other user contributions, when viewed in aggregate, provide a picture of genuine human activity. This approach is intentionally designed to be low-friction and non-intrusive, ensuring users engage with ease and allowing dApps to seamlessly integrate this new standard for trust and integrity in decentralized networks.
