Arbitrum is a leading Layer 2 scaling solution developed by Offchain Labs. It improves transaction speed and cost-efficiency using Optimistic Rollups while maintaining the security of the underlying network.
Situation
Arbitrum launched a 9-week gameathon called Arbitrum Arcade, featuring 22 innovative games within the Arbitrum ecosystem. The event aimed to showcase cutting-edge gaming experiences, support emerging content creators, and bring in-game achievements into a verifiable format. With the integration of Clique's technology built on top of the Ethereum Attestation Service (EAS), the initiative sought to enhance the value of player achievements, making them verifiable and meaningful within and beyond the gaming environment.
Challenge
The main challenge was to design an activation that would not only expand the discovery funnel for partnered games but also encourage users to capture their in-game activities and record them as verified scores, which could be used in existing or future games.
This required creating an interface for users to tie their accounts with their game profiles, managing and processing vast amounts of data from both platform sources and in-game APIs in a trust-minimized way while minimizing friction that would take away from their gaming experience.
Solution
Clique securely processed data sets from both on-platform and in-game sources in a trust-minimized manner. For each game, we collaborated with the teams to create a custom score based on the most relevant user activities, resulting in a verified score ranging from 0 to 100. This provided each participating user with a verified beacon that reflected their gaming activity, which other developers in the ecosystem could utilize.
Following the Arcade, this led to two main outcomes:
- Growth: Reactivating users for games aiming to conduct play-to-earn distribution campaigns.
- Curated Rewards: The Arcade enabled games to profile participants and identify users most aligned with their goals, based on average scores, number of games played, and level of immersion.
As an MVP, the Arbitrum Arcade was a success, showcasing the coprocessor’s ability to handle vast amounts of data from both off-platform and on-platform sources and generate verifiable attestations for various purposes.
